Sony Emerges as the Latest Target of Cyberattacks with Thousands of Files Allegedly Pilfered
- 02-10-2023
Sony's security has reportedly been breached by a ransomware group, leading to the compromise of all systems. Although this has not been officially confirmed, the purported cybercriminal group notes that it plans to sell the compromised data, according to cybersecurityconnect.com.
Screenshots serving as proof of the attack and indicating a September 28 release date have been provided by the hackers. The hackers have not revealed any information potentially harmful to the company but plan to sell over 6,000 illicitly extracted files including system logs, Java resources, and HTML files.
As of now, no price has been set for this data; however, several contact lines have been provided for potential buyers.
In 2011, Sony faced a similar attack where more than 77 million user accounts, along with personal and banking data, were impacted leading to a 3-week shutdown of the PlayStation Network. While Sony has not yet acknowledged the recent attack, we will maintain surveillance of the situation for any developments that might affect users.
