Whispers of a God of War Trilogy PS5 Upgrade Circulate
- 27-12-2023
A tantalizing piece of gossip has emerged for the holiday season, hinting that the beloved God of War original trilogy may be set to receive a PS5 revamp in the next couple of years, possibly between 2024 and 2025.
The scoop came from Nick Baker, known in the gaming community as Shpeshal Nick. While speaking on the 191st episode of the XboxEra podcast, Baker divulged that according to a trustworthy informant, fans of the epic series could expect to see the God of War trilogy reimagined for the PS5. He stopped short of specifying any exact dates, however, suggesting that the remaster might see daylight or at least be made public in the course of 2024.
Delving into the nature of this prospective release, Baker is on the fence about whether it will be a straightforward remaster sporting enhanced visuals or if it will lean towards a more comprehensive remake.
Nonetheless, Baker stressed that his source specifically used the term "remaster." With recent trends showing even minor gameplay modifications branded as full remakes—as seen with Demon’s Souls for PS5—it would be quite the revelation if this upcoming God of War refresh went beyond aesthetic improvements.
The whispers don't broach the subject of a PC adaptation, implying that, akin to the situation with The Last of Us Part 2 remaster, this God of War rework would remain exclusive to Sony's console. The notable omission of God of War: Ascension from the alleged remaster set raises some eyebrows, given its standalone appeal despite being less favored in the series. This is all the more curious as it remains a PS3 exclusive, making it even more elusive for contemporary players than God of War 3, which already saw a PS4 remaster and is compatible with the PS5.
